Don't you hate it when you get friends, colleagues, family forwarding viral bullshit emails. I think that knightwise had a beef about this awhile back also.
I got this email from a colleague (let's call them xxx) the other day -it was sent to all staff:
FYI
PASS THIS ON TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN...
This is for Australian phone numbers
REMEMBER: Mobile Phone Numbers Go Public next month.
REMINDER all mobile phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sale calls.
YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS
Below is a link where you can enter your phone
numbers online to put an end to telemarketing calls. Don't just delete
those calls otherwise you will find that you have been signed up for
all sorts of extra services that you didn't want or know about. Like
special chimes, music etc. https://www.donotcall.gov.au/
The donotcall site is legitimate and it actually warns about this
exact email being circulated (it's a few years old and relates to
American calls).
I sent a response to xxx advising that the email was in fact false and was a "viral email".
xxx then sent me this response:
Oh gee...that's it not sending anymore e-mails.....you try to do the right thing and see what happens...gee!
Thank goodness for that – job well done I thought.
However then xxx proceeded to send another email all staff advising
not to open the first email because it contains a virus. I just cracked
up laughing, maybe I should have explained what a "viral email" is.
