I think the stand is more expensive than the netbook.

I think you might be right mate!!

On a serious note though I was in Office Works the other day and I was looking at a laptop stand thingy. Mainly because I use my laptop sitting on the lounge and so I end up both with hot legs and uncomfortable because you have to stay in pretty much the same position.

So I was seriously looking at this:

The only drawback IMHO is the price as I think it is too much for what it is. But the design shape and weight was really good... maybe that's what your paying for....

It's a bit Martha Stewart but have you seen the wooden ones which the bean bag on the bottom.  Same concept just a lot cheaper.  I also found this one on Amazon, may not help you down under, but if you want me to bring you one when I come to Oz at Xmas let me know.

Lots of good examples in the LH post too.  10 different DIY laptop stands.  For the moment I have a stack of books much like the one above.  Mostly stuff I don't read anymore. hehe...

This doesn't work with all laptops, such as MacBooks because they don't open up wide enough, but I used one for years with my StinkPad when I worked in an office:

So simple, reasonably cheap at about $40, and drastically improves your posture as it raises the screen up significantly.

Thoroughly recommended, and it's an aussie firm! :)

Brilliant find tom125. Oddly enough I was just about to post something eerily similar.

My multi-functional laptop thingomatic.

It starts out flat as a pancake.

So you can use it as a leg protector.

But it also folds open like this.

So you can put your laptop on it to get the thing at eye-level.

The little netbook makes for an awesome little third screen to keep track of my mail on.

It appears to be rather a rare specialized thingy though. The only website I found, doesn't actually sell the darn things to anything but corporations.

Does anyone have equally useful stands that are easier to come by?

I was looking at one at the Apple store and they wanted somethin like $70 for what amounted to a couple pieces of Lexan and a coat hanger. I need to check out one of the office supply places to see what they have, I guess. IKEA should build something for this!
