I have a few phones under business - 3 nokias and and iphone 4 numbers - the iphone is useless as the battery life is no good so its used as a glorified ipod and GPS. One Nokia gets stolen and is insuranced with optus - the insurance agree that should I choice to upgrade the hand set I can - check out what you want - I say no need want the new iphone with double battery life - they say I can have an upgrade to any phone i want except the iphone - I say - well I have one on the plan already they say that would be covered but not the other handsets.
I ring back wanting to talk about the case and after the rep talking around the deptments - they say that this is not an optus policy but an Apple policy - anyone here with apple - you would think Apple would wish to sell more phones
Optarse Bullshit I'm afraid. How and when you upgrade your phone is between you and the carrier, nothing to do with the manufacturer. You were fed a line. In the US and some other countries Apple and AT&T agree the plan prices and might be able to specify this sort of thing, but not in Australia where we have competition between the carriers and Apple does not receive a kickback from the plan fees.
Anyway, if the iphone is so shit and useless, why do you want one on launch before you know what the actual battery life of the 3GS is like?
I have heard the above to be true in the US.
@Tom the battery life is double on the new one as per reviews - the battery life doubled when the firmware was upgraded from 1 to 2 on the 3g - the line was fed when they said no I couldnt upgrade - thats why I persuded it and now optus say its apple - I will simply take it to apple and I have already hashed it on twitter but optus aren' t using twiiter as a media
I know US is just subsided on ATT
Hmmm.... not double according to Apple, unless they've updated the 3G model that's still available too.
http://store.apple.com/au/browse/home/shop_iphone/family/iphone?mco=MTE2OTU
spoke to apple today and they said yes indeed double battery life on the s over the 3G
I rang then about the optus thing and they confirmed that it was not their policy
optus on recall have said no iphones because they are too fragile - then no iphones because there is no stock and then the highest manager I could get said they didnt know the reason and he wouldnt know anyone who would know the reason - he has had this question several times - he thinks it may be plan related but he doesnt know and would be unable to find anyone who would
so its an ACA bid left as my only option - sites like should be able to cause a stir so that optus would listen
Did you click the link? Doesn't look like double on their website.
There's also a big fat "Existing Customers Upgrade to the new iPhone Now" button on the front page of Optus's site.
So your complaint seems to be that Optus won't give you an iPhone for free to replace the Nokia that was stolen?
no Tom I will pay for the upgrade - in fact the story went - can I upgrade my handset - optus insurance - of course you can but there may be some additional charge - sure I expect that - well Sir have a look around at the handsets availible and let us know - no need I want the new iphone - sorry sir we cant do the iphone - but you said any phome I want ? - sorry any phone in the optus world except the iphone - what - sorry - ......
That is the point - and no one knows why
Anyone here on linkedin - I am but you have to be a paid memeber to be able to send mail (inmail) - Tom are you on linkedin so we can contact up ?
well about the double battery life - i probably heard it on twit and when I was talking to the apple guy he confirmed double the life - but it was after a half hour with him but its a define -
Cant you just get the E71, flip it on craigslist for 300 AUD$ and buy what you like?
oops... I had another look online. Prices are pretty high down under.
So the insurance is a scam?
Call Optus back and state that their insurance is not "Fit for purpose" under the trade practices act and if they still refuse, contact the ACCC. Unless the insurance policy clearly states it's not available with an iPhone, then it's not a policy you need to abide by. If it's "choose from the range provided" then you don't have any agreement to hold them to.
