Microsoft is letting the public test the release candidate of their new Windows 7 out for a year.

Is it a beta test or a publicity stunt? That doesn't matter very much if you just want to see what Microsoft managed to improve over Windows Vista.

Follow the instructions here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/download.aspx

You have until July to get your copy and serial key.

Came across this post yesterday listing 15 free product keys for Windows 7 RC1 which they say will activate it beyond 30 days. Hope this helps. Let us know if they work!

I put Windows 7 (64 bit) onto my desktop computer over the weekend. Kept an image of my XP installation just in case but I don't think that I'll be going back.

Put Win 7 32 bit onto the laptop which had Vista on it - it's now a lot snappier.

I just hope that Microsoft will do something different and sell Windows as family pack (4 licenses would do my household nicely)

Yeah I downloaded the iso the day it went live, but I'm not around to installing yet because I know that I would get distracted by it and trying new things.  Hearing good things and I'm looking forward to trying it myself.

I made a bootable USB drive and installed in on my old machine at home.  It has given it a new lease of life, as the Windows 7 Media Center is actuallypretty cool.  I actually liked it so much that I payed the $49 to pre buy a copy from Amazon.  Saved $50 on what the retail is meant to be.  In case you are wondering here is a set of instructins for making a bootable USB key <link> worked great for me.
