I am loving the new direction for the show guys. Frankly I dont really care how you deliver it, as long as you deliver it. I enjoy this, 2schooners, and Podcasters Emporium.
I do have some comments about 22 though. I am not even half way through it yet cause my commute is only 40 minutes one way.
The twitter problem. I couldn't agree more. I joined twitter in April of 2007 and thought it was the coolest thing since sliced bread. Twitter was built by and made for geeks. It wasnt made for twats like Ashton Kutcher who reduce it to nothing more than a "biggest dick contest" (dave's words).
A while back all the pop top 40 kids and emo punks starting joining in droves (about sept 2008) and it made the fail whale a common sight. dickheads like ashton kutcher and Oprah brought the fail whale back.
I am happy with the success of twitter, but in my opinion, twitter is for us, the ordinary geeks. Not celebrities and psuedo science propegators like Oprah. It also isnt for bloody stupid "entrepreneurs" 6 new follows per day by these "entrepreneurs" is getting quite old.
People trying to sell shit on twitter will always be introduced to @spam by me in a hurry. I recommend you all do the same. They are who ruined twitter.
here here on every point there Chris
Guys, keep up the awesome work on the new show format, lovin it
and all the idiots can go find their own micro blogging platform, leave ours ALONE
Chris that is probably the BEST most succinct summary of exactly the point that I was making on the show that I have heard. Could not agree more.
I would also thank you guys for the feedback on the change of format. I am actually quite surprised as I thought the reaction might be a bit negative but it has been the total opposite. These changes are going to make it so much easier and take a lot of pressure off in general and hopefully make for a faster turn around for content and shorter shows making for more listeners all round. Appreciated!
Hey Dave, we're all for faster turn around on the shows. I think most of us want to hear MORE AGP, not less. If that means you guys need to break the shows down into bit-sized segments, creating single shows for each segment and being able to keep up the frequency of shows rather than rushing through segments and having longer, less-frequent shows, then that's great. Shorter and more is better!
There are so many podcasts that just fire up their Google readers and run down the top tech news stories, spending 2 minutes on each "piece" than I care to mention. Even many of the so-called "top tech podcasts" only cover what's "hot" rather than what is truly interesting. Look at your Diggnations, your TWITs, your Rocketbooms, your Cranky Geeks... it's all the same old boring stuff that 40 other podcasts and tech websites have covered.
We're discerning listeners! We want more!
You can count me in as another listener who has no qualms about the new format.
I'll be looking forward to see how the shows pan out.
No problems with the new format either. Anything that helps keep things organized and fun for you, will make the show better.
It's cool that many of your submissions and itunes ratings come from outside Australia. That kinda shows your broader appeal. It a lot more fun to listen to your light hearted commentary than Leo Laporte's endless commercials for Ausible.
Not that I have anything against Leo or Audible, by the way.
I think the new format makes a lot of sense. One benefit is that it makes it easier to keep sites and services podcasts that you might want to refer to in future.
All in all, great work guys please keep it up. This is the only tech podcast I listen to. I get all the new and useful stuff I need from it.
