This is worth a bit of a laugh: Telstra is making rules for social media for both company and personal use.
"they have released a six-page set of guidelines on the use of Facebook, Twitter, and other similar websites for both company and personal use"
http://yro.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=09/04/20/2330230
"A difficult aspect of the guidelines to enforce is the section governing the use of the sites in a personal capacity. If the employee refers to Telstra, they are expected to identify themselves as an employee of the company"

That means they'd like to enforce their company rules on their employee's private life. Maybe someone should remind them that they're a telephone company and not a government.
Ha yeah saw this the other day and I think I said it was like Telstra found a new animal that needed to be classified... Geeze... telstra... what next you douche bags
I can understand where they're coming from, it's rather unprofessional for a Telstra employee to complain online, but Telstra is so ham-fisted about everything. From ridiculous iphone data caps to arrogant National Broadband appraisals, it's like a they've grown a little too comfortable in their monopoly.
Yeah, I saw this story too and made the suggestion that Telstra should publish a guideline on how people are to have relations with their partners. I mean if you're going to attempt to impose restrictions on people's personal lives, why not go all the way? Make 'em ask their supervisors for approval before having relations. Make 'em purchase Telstra-approved prophylactics! Tell 'em they can't spend their paycheques on anything other than Telstra-approved products too!
I don't think it's as bad as all that. Any big corporation has to protect their brand online and offline.
The stupid thing is how it has come about. It was Telstra who brought it to the world's attention that the guy behind the Fake Stephen Conroy twitter account was one of their employees. He didn't ever say where he worked.
As for the Telstra bashing... well fair enough they are expensive and have the usual high standards of customer service one would expect from a telecoms company (!) but Australia does have the fastest 3G network in the world. Beat that Canada. :P
WOW fast 3G network.!!! But we have one of the slowest broadband networks in the world. I am currently on the fastest Internet plan possible in Brisbane and I get 17Mbits/second and pay $90AUD/month for that privilege. While I was living in Malaysia 3 years ago I was able to get 30Mbits/sec and only paid the equivalent of $45AUD/month. I now have a 25Gb transfer limit (uploads count) while in Malaysia I had no limit at all. Download and upload as much as I wanted.
Hopefully the NBN can fix some of these issues. But a 8 year roll out means that by the time the plan is rolled out fully it will be an obselete product. I love this country but we do have to pay the price for having such a small population in such a large land mass. Malaysia for example has a slightly higher population than us (25Million) in a land mass about twice the size Tasmania.
I have all the gripes but none of the solutions. :-)

Don't worry. I'm working on it! You'll have at least one extra European web-developer at your disposal, barring any bureaucratic mishaps.
