Latest podcast Dave said he doesnt want to talk about Hulu because he can't watch it
Theres a programme called hotspot sheild that hides your aussie ip - you just have it as a icon - log on to hulu and then run it - and you can even turn it off once you have started watching.
The only thing they ask in return is to ckick on one of their ads which you then close and you are on Hulu
How safe are those things? Aren't they just a proxy so your traffic is routed through them? I'm always scared they'll do dodgy things.... But perhaps I'm being silly. :)
I tried to use hotspot shield from Europe to watch "Family Guy" on Hulu, but it's just way too slow to support a video-stream.
Also, for Australians I'd be worried that your bandwidth would go over the cap on very short notice.
Hotspot is fine - (for tom - it only hides your ip and as long as hulu doesn't know your not USA then you are ok )they make their money from that one click you do - I am anal when using sites like that and this one is all ok
As for bandwidth well I am on an Optus plan and are on their max - 30 gigs (total up and down) and then throlled down to a low speed but it is free - on the 20 gig plan I was raped once the limit was reached but the bandwidth is ok.
I havent gone on hulu lately as with everything, once you use it its over rated
I can't be bothered with Hulu... If they can't make their content available to everyone then they're useless as an Internet company. It's too much trouble for me to find something to hide my IP, I'll just browse through YouTube instead.
Oh dear - I feel the same sometimes - if it wasn't for this tape looped-saying "breath in - breath out" I dont think I'd bother living
Sometimes I dont know why I bother turn on this computer - I"m with you Herne - you know why do you bother with the e on herne - I should drop the O on seano -
Moderator - did you get that because no boby else bothered to try out
I unlike you and Dave looked for a simple hack around to see what all the fuss was about - Hulu have agreements with Fox and others which stops the product being seen outside us - do You think Channel seven would pay so much for lost or desperate houswives when you can just watch on Hulu - So Hulu will never be fully available outside the US -check out the boxee hulu war
The whole point is to do things the wrong way round - so you get to see stuff they make it difficult to the everyday user - well why not just go to www.watchtvsitcoms.com and you can see anything you want with out you bothering too much coz fox aint changing just for you - keep smoking dude
Please calm down seano. We're good people here. ![]()
I just can't be arsed to jump through hoops for giant media corporations, sorry. I have a nice understanding with them. I don't watch their crap and they don't get a cent from me.
Yes maybe my point could have been driven home better as it was a dual point - yes its possible in quantum mechanics- dual point that is
First the I cant be bothered thing - well I dont really care what people can't be bothered doing - thats their choice - but please dont boast about I can't be bothered as if the whole world just wants Herpe sorry Herne to be bothered about their product and then if he joins suddendly there is a Steve Jobs Run dept in Hulu who break out ballons and fog horns because he finally rates Hulu a decent internet companty - The Fact is Hulu is for USA only and they don't want anyone else even looking at their site.
Now- as for not going to watch Hulu until they make it available to Horne sorry Herne when that will teach them - nof said
Yeah, I don't think I'll be installing someone's proprietary software either. Gawd knows what kind of extra crap you're going to get with it.
Hulu is just a bunch of old-media people who haven't yet realized that in this day and age, people don't want to be told how they're going to consume their media. If they believe their little IP checking routine is going to stop people from viewing the media they want to see, then they're pretty stupid.
@seano: LOL wut?
I'm not passionate enough about the commercial media to engage in any meaningful discussion about it. It just bothers me that globalisation only works if it is in their favour, but when it's the other way around they suddenly need to block IP-ranges.
I use Usenet myself, generally after everyone has gone to bed.
My internet connection (1500 Kb/s down) is OK for low res streaming video but it does slow down the other users (2 other computers). We do manage to use up the whole 40GB per month though.
I did enjoy the latest episodes of Red Dwarf which I doubt would be on Hulu (who knows when they will be out in Australia, maybe in 2 years time)
The new Red Dwarf episodes was nostalgiatastic. I got them from the Piratebay to be honest. The UK channel they were broadcast on (Dave) also discriminates against Europeans.
You can follow the actor who play Kriten on twitter: http://twitter.com/bobbyllew He's actually quite verbose and interactive about his projects.
I just watched Red Dwarf on YouTube. It was up about 2 hours after the show aired and was decent enough quality just to view. I'll most likely purchase the DVDs whenever they get around to releasing them in Canada.
Word was that this was a "test" to see if people are interested in seeing Red Dwarf return... but judging by the age of the actors and the comments I've heard via @bobbyllew, the actors themselves aren't sure if they could keep up!
One of these days I have to get back into watching Doctor Who...
First up: To all; watch the agro here. Period. Every single person that comes, joins and contributes to the forum has something worthwhile to add to the conversation. I don't want to see that crap play out here. There are a few things said above that I don't like seeing as they do not contribute to open constructive forum conversations.I know other forums have trolls and flamers that make things somewhat interesting to those not in the firing line - NOT HERE - NOT EVER!
That said; I think that @seano had a great point and I also understand the responses that the suggestion got. I also understand that those responses could be misunderstood and people need to be prepared for any response even a negative one and that response is not personal. Also note that our moderators on this forum were carefully chosen for various reasons and they are trusted and supported 100% by the owners of this forum.
OK right, we all friends again? Cause I really hate having to say that! GREAT! Let's get on with the conversation.
@Seano I realise that you could use a proxy and access both HULU and other services that are blocked outside of the US. But honestly I don't really want to access it that much. It is TV on the Internet :P I have also found like you that there is most things available on YouTube and other sites and I can find them easilly enough. It was not that I don't know of solutions or could not be bothered employing them - rather a conscious choice not to. Same with PANDORA - poor bastards yes but you know what, there is not a lot I can do about it!
I also hate the fact that one of the reasons that we can't access HULU is the local broadcasting laws that are governed by the almight dollar and for that reason I have less interest in an internet service that I thought might have supported a more global approach to content delivery - nope they are a bit like slaves to the system really.
Good tip with the service though. One warning though via McAfee is to be cautious on the site as there are 2 bad downloads on the site that make changes to your browser info here:
That link goes to McAfee siteadvisor details about HotSpot Shield
BTW I think this is a great conversation - we need to talk about the convergence of old media and new Tech because I think it will be an area that takes a long time to sort out and will have long lasting effects for us and our children.
Remember to play nice!
Cheers good thread
It's interesting to note that this subject manages to get people up in arms. The large media corporations probably don't notice they aggro they are causing in the people they discriminate against geographically.
Nobody likes to be locked out of a service based on a trivial reason. Everything is global nowadays. If multi-nationals are allowed to pay their taxes in a Caribbean tax paradise, then why aren't we allowed to watch an episode of Dr Who or Heroes?
Hail All
Dave - the first to get the point at last - You didnt want to talk about Hulu as we all here (OZ) cant get it - so it was a non event - I meant as a podcaster come commentater you should try it before commenting and on here then the anti Hulu - I will come clean I have 52% share in the company that sold to a Hulu shareholder who I believe own at present 25% of Hulu an item to help transformer raw product full of bacteria and fugui into a product that will sustain and give the company some nurishment and the strength to carry on the might fight for the mighty leader
yes I sold news ltd a grill this week - other than that I don't care about Hulu either - but we are the tail and the dog is the USA and as yet we are not managing to wag the dog - all we get here are the trends and crumbs that come from USA and thats why Hulu is important as it is a trend setter - like Twitter which works different over there due to free data on mobiles - cells
And Speaking of Twitter - Dave you acted like you you never heard of ASTen - as Dude wheres my car replayed last week, where were you - but if you want get a really thought provoking movie watch him in "The Butterfly Effect" - great movie for people who Think - it may not be on Hulu though ........................yet
@wollymittens - forget telling about bobby on twitter - tell everyone his about "carpool" - a video podcast - not a vodcast - as it is set on the idea that people when getting lifts in cars talk openly - so he gives people a lift with cams on in his car and to date all the characters ( from red dwarf) have been done - can be found in itunes - now thats the future of media Dave
