I just had a go with the boxee remote.

There's is literally nothing to seen on screen but the controls are perfect.

Unfortunely the two XMBC forks [ plex and boxee ] send my old macbook pro temperature through the roof. Going to try on an old AMD PC running ubuntu next

Anything else [ NOT A TORCH OR FART ] pop up recently?

For the record I'm on a Touch. It seems like Touch sales have eclipsed iPhone sales.

I recently installed the ABC application (local National TV and radio Broadcaster) and for a local app it is really great. You can listen to radio and television shows. See and read the latest news split into categories and a heap more. It really is a quality application.

My only beef with it is that the radio is not streaming, the option should be available.

But other than that I reckon that our National Carrier is running rings around the commercial stations, in a big way - they have miles and miles to make up to even come close. I am not even referring only to the iPhone app but things like adaption to new technology and forward thinking in general. The web interface for watching telly is awesome!

Thanks ABC :)

The other one that I would highly recommend is TED - featuring TED talks, both audio and video - the quality that we have come to expect from the TED :)

My only issue with this one is the load time is a bit slow when you load it up. Plus I would recommend a restart with this one as I had issues until I did.

Great app though and awesome to get that morning coffee and a bit of TED - it updates weekly :)

Eric - mmm strange I thought you would be able to. Esp considering the number of ExPats that are spread all over the place... Anyone else have similar issues?

No, it doesn't work overseas. Same sort of thing with the BBC's iPlayer.  They show their stuff for free in the local market but flog it to overseas partners, so don't want to destroy that with free downloads on teh interwebz.

The only aussie TV available online that works outside Aus is Channel Ten's offering.

oh man... iplayer... that drives me nuts... i just paid 60 USD for a Two Pints box set. I'm totally fine paying for content. I'll have to buy Ashes to Ashes too but they can throw me a bone. How can I discover these show's without access? Backwards!

Anyway... I'm up to 6 pages of apps. Maybe 5 I use dialy. As much as I love France24 it's just not pratical.

If my HTPC goes well I'll be using the boxee remote every Saturday.

btw - zyb still rocks. I sync S60 and my Touch.

I have 3 full pages of apps on my touch but have only had it for 2 weeks now.

I am finding that apps are a lot like podcasts. There is a bucket load of them but very few are of any value whatsoever and only a couple can be called GOOD. The majority of the apps I download (and I download A LOT) are deleted off my touch within 2 minutes of it going on. And 80% of the apps that have stayed on my iTouch have been used 2 or 3 times and are just left for that "Day that I find a use for this"

For those of you that Ski, Hike, Bike, Walk or Run.  You should check out EveryTrail this is a great little app which has a generic version for walking, hiking and running and specialist versions for biking and skiing, all versions of the app are FREE.  You just fire up the app when you start your activity and let it run and do it's thing.  Then once you are done you just upload your gpx file along with any photos that you have taken to the EveryTrail site.

Here is a screen shot of a recent skiing trip to the Vallee Blanche in France. You can check out the interactive map here  http://tinyurl.com/c8s63z

And this is a recent bike ride which I did with my Daughter around Liberty State Park. Interactive map link  http://tinyurl.com/cjotk3 This one had the photos which I took with my iPhone as well.

Anyway I have been very impressed with these apps and the interactions with the online services provided by EveryTrail.

Argh! That looks so useful that I feel sorry I didn't get an iPhone. I put it off when it was released out of fear that the two year contract would lock me in to what is a very expensive and impopular provider here.

Do I understand correctly, that you can actually share your route and the snapshots with others? Like a people-powered Google street view.

Yep, that is totally correct.  It appears that EveryTrail is building a small community in which people can share routes with each other including photos and stories of the routes which people have published.

It's interesting to once you post a route to the site, it then shows you similar routes which other people have published.

Camerabag - I know that it has been mentioned in a previous list but I thought that I would share this link with AGP.  Check out this selection of iPhone photos from Chase Jarvis.  You will be pretty amazed.  On his blog he also lists out his top 5 tips for taking better photos with your iPhone.
