I have to do this English language test for my Aussie visa. No sweat... I can read these forums just fine. ![]()
To my dismay I found out that this test is HANDWRITTEN. What's this... medieval times? I haven't written anything longer than my name and address in 10 years and now I've got to get myself to write 300 page essays in a month.
Anyone here with the same degraded handwriting skills?
My handwriting is chicken scratch!
handwriting is teh suck when taking notes quickly. I have to maintain good handwriting because of my job (Work in Construction Engineering and Planning).
But I see your point, why would you have a language test in writing... They should have a person there to assess your communication skills.
Even when I was doing Architectural Drafting my handwriting sucked. I had to be extra careful when lettering drawings otherwise it would look like so much mush... Nowadays they do it all on computer! Bastards!
I cant actually write anymore.
It just comes out looking likes runes or something.
Total mess.
Hope the tests costs less than what I paid for my inlaws, something like 1300$ USD.
Ponderous!
wow...i remember writing with those....things...wat did we call em..pens? i think so. to think, my kids (wen i have some) will grow up not knowing what the hell a pencil was!
A pen is one of those stylus things for touch-screens, only ink dribbles out. No, I don't know why either, but I'm getting me one of those soon so I can practice my exams.
I did hear about a pen that could write on paper AND digitize the result at the same time. That might be a useful gadget to have actually. http://www.livescribe.com/
Has anyone here seen one of those things in action?
My handwriting is shocking. I put it down to 2 things:
1. Being left handed and
2. Having to use a fountain pen in primary school - no left handed nibs were available back in those days so my writing ended up being just scratchy blotches
Fountain pen? That 88 in your name is not your birth-year for sure.
Bonus: They call me Lefty too.
I used to take notes in school with a nib pen... just for fun. Makes a helluva mess.
@woollymittens i've checked out a couple of those livescribe type pens in the stores. very cool but without a genuine use, i can never justify the cost!
@woollymittens Ha Ha - I never thought of that. The 88 was chosen arbitrarily because on most sites the user name Matt has been taken.
My school days were mainly in the 70's
why not 8888?
Then people will think you're Chinese.
It's always good to confuse people.
I let people on IRC think I'm a 300 pound Japanese Sumo wrestler.
For some reason I think that's hilarious.
wow...well its just blown me away then.i thort 88 was ur b/y
now who is the youngest AGP follower? I hope its not me!
There must be a lot of middle/high school kids listening
Just to offer the contrary view, my handwriting isn't too bad. I often use a pen rather than a computer especially when writing code. The best way to polish a blog post is to rewrite it by hand. Your brain engages with the text a lot more via a pen than via a keyboard.
I am pretty geeky in the overall scale of things, but there are times when the most primitive of tools are the best for the job.
Writing code with a pen on paper could lead to some really bizarre compiler problems.

I don't actually input directly from the page, but I am old enough to remember punch card programming where you could literally change a programme with a pair of scissors.
