Google is working on some tools to test your internet connection.  It's still in the early stages but Dave may have benefited from it with his recent internet woes.

That Matt... be great when we see some local servers though. Unfortunately ISP's work on speeds from local servers - they are happy if you are getting the minimum from a server down the road. That despite the fact that you might be downloading an email at 22k per second!!!

The server down the road is a much easier metric to come up to spec with :P

But I like the idea with the networking tools and stuff like that. Actual speed is a pretty hard thing to measure. We usually notice when there is something wrong and then we don't have proof we just know it ain't us :)
