The word on the street today is that Microsoft are about to lose 15,000 of their 90,000 workforce.

It doesn't seem to be an official story yet but it is being widely reported (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/mediatechnologyandtelecoms/4075340/Microsoft-rumoured-to-be-planning-mass-job-losses.html for example). I was a bit surprised by this story. I would have thought that Microsoft were doing okay financially. They certainly seem to have money in the bank judging by their shopping list last year. And they are hardly having to discount their software much.

I think the big crunch will hit everything in time, at least in the US. Or maybe MS is using it as an excuse to hone their workforce??

I have been seeing reports of these rumors flying round over the last few days - maybe a week. Be interesting to see how it pans out. These things don't usually come out of thin air though so I think I am expecting some losses.

I think I recall something about the fact that MS has not made job cuts before so this might be a first on many fronts.

That's really sad. Maybe they can graft SEVEN on top of a linux kernel and have a usable product.

I was looking forward to that SEVEN box set of windows, a fancy HTC device and a head in a box.
