I've been knocking about the forums for a while but thought I'd start one of these...
I grew up in the UK, have lived in the UK, France and Spain, and moved to Australia 6 years or so ago and love it - got my Aussie passport last year.
I've got a degree in Computer Science, but I graduated in 1998 and our year was the last year not to learn any internet programming stuff other than very basic HTML - of the white page, black text, navy links and purple visited links variety. I didn't really enjoy programming anyway, I love the mental exercise of working out a solution, but implementing that solution... meh. After graduating I spent a year or so teaching English as a foreign language, then ditched that and started a corporate job and got on the career ladder for nearly 10 years...
...which I've just jumped off. I've chucked in my career and am retraining as a chef... fantastic! As much as I love computers, sitting in front of one all day every day got boring. And training for 4 days a week gives me loads of spare time to stuff around on the interwebz - hence my frequent posting around here (that might change soon when I get a job!)
In case you haven't guessed I'm a mac fan. Partly because of the inherent Microsoftness of Windows XP, but mostly because of the way my firm locked down and squeezed the life out of their PCS, the computers at work did their job but were no fun to use. I wanted to have something else to use at home, and fell in love with macs. Fan Boy? Probably in some people's eyes, but I can be objective about it if I want to be. Sometimes however it is fun to stir up the die-hard Windoze people. :P
And yes I love my iPhone. It suits my needs and lifestyle with my friends working in offices and emailing eachother - I can keep up with them on the go when I'm in college doing my cooking course. With MobileMe syncing over the cloud it's also the first PDA that I've had which is always up to date - I had a Palm for a while years ago but I'd never sync it so it was useless really.
I've been listening to the AGP since roughly GGP 80 or so, and am gradually working backwards - I'm in the mid 50's now! Apart from that I listen to a lot of the BBC and ABC podcasts, some of the TPN ones although I wish they'd update more (The Productivity Show and the Every Day Lives show). G'Day World too although sometimes it gives me the shits especially when Cam starts talking politics. Also MacTalk is quite fun.
