"Microsoft has announced that the latest version of Windows, due in the next couple of years, will be called - drumroll please - Windows 7. It’s about time Microsoft adopted a naming system that might actually make some sense to users, but I can’t wait for hordes of customers to start asking if they somehow missed Windows 1 through 6."

"...since we began development of the next version of the Windows client operating system we have been referring to it by a codename, "Windows 7." But now is a good time to announce that we've decided to officially call the next version of Windows, "Windows 7."

I was never really a fan of the names like XP or Vista, so this is an improvement in my book. Still, if they can name a version of office that ships sometime in/close to 2007 "office 2007" and server "server 2008" etc. why can't they just call it Windows 2009 or Windows 2010 (depening on when it ships)? It's not like they've never used those types of names before...
Or maybe just "Windows Works!"
Now with 20% less BSOD... because we changed the crash screen to green.
You can count of MS to state the bloody obvious, and Herne for that matter...
I think calling it Windows XPS Improved Edition 2010 Ultra would sound cooler. Oh, well. Too bad.
2010 Ultra
that sounds great!
like a 70s scifi movie with lots o killin, but set in 2011 b/c it'll ship late
they should rely on 2 GPUs, 4 CPUs and 4GB of ram just to run the OS and endless lens flare BLING. dont forget that 1Kw power supply you'll need.
never mind apps, it can be like winmo. strictly for show.
you can always go vegan to offset the carbon emissions.
I knew there were people who would like that name better
LOL!
Then you could have "2010 Ultra Ultimate Ultimate" :P
Hmm, I'll probably be using XP until the release of Windows 7. Really unfortunate that Windows Vista has turned out the way it has. I remember reading Maximum PC and getting excited when reading about WinFS and some of the other cool innovative stuff, too bad that never made it.
I wonder why Windows 7 and WinMo 7 are coming in the same year.

I hope it's not just so they can use the same logo's or something stupid like that. MS really needs to quickly do something to get people interested in mobile (as a platform) again, or they'll just end up like palm.
Sounds to me like a lot of fanboys making fun of microsoft. According to thurotte windows 7 is ready to ship now
Heard a rumor SEVEN ULTRA PREMIUM box set will come with a winmo 7 device
and some fragments of code.. like the wax trax box set
I think that you guys are in for a shock delivery date for windows 7 is xmas 2009 and its ready to go now, sure there will be some bugs in the new operating system but there were bugs with osx 10 as well and microsoft has had the use of the vista base to make their new operating system. We are finally getting the vista that was promised 3 years ago.The only thing that is bothering me is at what price will the new windows 7 be. if the cost is anything like vista then its not worth it. Microsoft should take a page out of apples book here and make it affordable for everyone.

I now have it running on my imac and within virtualbox on my macbook pro.
Nothing to report... yet
We had a small chat about W7 in this weeks show - episode 13.
It's all nice and cuddly and stuff with Windows 7, but the harm they did to themselves with Windows Vista won't be so easily repaired. I bought a Mac instead of wasting my time with Vista and I think a lot of people have done the same thing. It's going to be hard to convince them to go back to Windows 7 just because MS understood partially that something went wrong along the way. Windows 7 should be an update to Vista like this month and not XMAS 2009. A lot of iMacs will have been sold by then...
