Post your Geek Palace.
Herne - yeah I am with you on that one. Extra money on the CPU would be a great idea. Especially given sighko's comment - which is a a very valid point. The dual processors these days are giving software writers heaps of options - why leave one CPU (or 3) doing nothing?
@Knightwise; I have no plans to install Vista in anything I own. If I happen to buy a new laptop with Vista installed then we'll see what happens, but I would not willingly install Vista.
Microsoft has one more chance to get their OS right, if the new Windows (Windows 7 rumoured for 2010) doesn't fix all the bloat, registry and driver problems, then my next computer purchase will be a Mac.
I have a hankerin' to draw out my "uber geek" desk... might do that if I get the chance.

Hey guys.
Dougs desk looks too tidy. I think he has issues.
I of course have a mess, and am therefore normal.
On my desk i have a nx6120 HP laptop, a P4 3ghz (single core gasp) with 2 gb of ram and a phone, ipod speakers, and last but not least a HP8180 all in one printer.
I'm beginning to think I'm really lazy... not only do I not have a particularly exciting setup, I don't really have a desk! I have a desk that the lappie sits on when it's charging - but I tend to use it anywhere but at my desk. Right now I'm on the sofa thinking I really should be going to bed. Sometimes I'm out on the balcony. Sometimes I'm lying on the floor in front of the TV whilst surfing the net (who said blokes couldn't multitask). Sometimes I'm using the lappie in bed (but never to post here I promise... that's not an image you want). Only about 1 in 10 times do I actually sit at my desk and use my computer - and that's normally to do really dull stuff like internet banking! :)
@doug (as opposed to @dough - who were you talking to KW??!!) your setup is way to tidy and clean, you neat freak you! (Just jealous) Great idea with the iPod dock...
I should just note my desk is the corner sort (L Shape). I keep all my crap on the other side.....thats why I didn't put it in the picture :)
Been watching this thread and looking forward to posting the new office pictures :)
Doug, I like the dock. I might try something similar...

Thats quite a setup you've got there.
LOL Herne, shit your funny mate :P
So cool to see everyone's set up. Keep your pants on, we are looking at a week or 2 until mine will be right here up in lights :)
Got enough screens yet?-herne
Actually, I did squeeze in a few more a while ago, but it was just too cluttered...

There was an even bigger issue with the amount of cable...and the heat...and that it would trip the circuit breaker if it all powered on at once after a power failure.
Exactly how many PC you got running there atmo??

There's four desktop systems (main workstation, test pc, media pc, retro games pc), plus the laptop, the ipcop box and my file/vm server which lives in another part of the house. They're not all on 24/7, but I run Folding@Home on the systems that are.
Ok , I have made a little VIDEO of my geek setup.
Here it is :
Featured are : 2 macs (one 24 inch Imac, 1 macbook pro) 2 vm's (xp and ubuntu), 2 mirai 19" tft displays mounted on neoflex arms and 2 external harddrives in Icybox enclosures.
Nice setup KW. :)
How are the additional monitors connected? Are they both running from the Imac, or is one running from the MacBook Pro?
I've tried consolidating my setup a few times (to the point that I've got a dedicated quad core machine running VMWare server) but always find there's a bit too much trade off in versatility and performance running most things in VM's.

One external monitor is connected to the imac, the other one is connected to the macbook pro. Vmware runs pretty smoothly and it can really 'work for you' when you have enough processing power and memory to throw at it. make sure you also install the vmware tools on every vm that you install. That will give you smooth sailing when jumping from vm to host os and back again.
Blogged it :P Very cool KW. Thanks and hope the blog post is OK with you.
